It was a dark and stormy night but after a few glasses of this tasty drink your night will be so bright you will need to wear shades although, you might need them the next day too.
I’m not a big drinker, I’m more of a wanna a be drinker. If you saw my drink cabinet you would see lots of really pretty bottles, most not open and I have one bottle (or several) that are close to 20 years old. However, I’m always on the lookout for a tasty drink that isn’t too sweet or too sour and this one fits the bill perfectly. These type of drinks usually don’t bother my stomach like the sugary or citrus filled ones do.
I heard someone on a tv show say a dark and stormy was their drink of choice since it was lower in sugar than most mixed drinks. I’m always on the lookout to save calories where I can, usually so I spend them on a desert, so I searched the internet to see what it was all about. Dark rum and ginger beer is what it’s about. This sounded interesting as I have not knowingly had dark rum or ginger beer before and wondered just how sweet this drink would be. I was pleasantly surprised that is was the perfect balance of sour to sweet which unfortunately makes these drinks slide down all too easily.
Here are the details:
Dark and Stormy
2 oz Gosling’s dark rum
3 oz Ginger Beer
Lime wedge
To be true to the drinks origin use Gosling’s Black Rum but you could really use any dark rum. You could also use ginger ale in place of ginger beer but I think it would make it overly sweet and you would lose the spiciness that comes from the ginger beer.
I lost a whole weekend to this delicious and very easy to make drink. That said you must still give them a try but please have a designated driver or make them at home because overindulging is very easy to do. Let me know if you give this drink a try and what tweaks if any you made.
If you have the time please head over to shutterbeans for a funny post about this drink.
